According to the building permit, this house was nearing completion in July 1888 when a severe storm caused part of the brick gable to collapse, damaging the adjacent house. The city inspectors then noted that the gables in this house were too tall and violating the building code, but the contractors were allowed to finish since the house was nearly completed.
