This rectangular two-story commercial building served as a corner store and later restaurant.
History
This building was probably constructed between 1910 and 1925. The Sanborn Fire Insurance map for 1903 shows a one-story store at this address. In the 1926 map there is a two story store. For many years this building housed a succession of grocery stores serving the Rondo neighborhood. According to city directories, these included:
- Samuel Unovich grocery in 1930
- Jack Diamond grocery in 1935 to 1946
- Credjafawn Co-op Store in 1948
- Joseph H. Martin grocery, later Martin's Market in 1949 and 1955
After years serving as a corner grocery store this building became a restaurant. Among the eateries housed here were:
- Just Right Bar-B-Q Restaurant in 1960
- Celebrity Cafe in 1965 and 1970
- Jose's Old Southern Bar-B-Q in 1975
In the 1980 and 1985 directories the building was listed as being empty. The site is now part of a large housing development.
