These two blocks of small houses were built for brewery workers. There were at one time six breweries in the West Seventh Street area. Nearby is the Banholzer mansion, 681 Butternut Street, home of William Banholzer, who owned the nearby North Mississippi Brewery. The St. Paul Trades and Labor Assembly held early Labor Day picnics at Banholzer Park near Drake and Stewart Streets just off West Seventh and Randolph.
