Minneapolis Hennepin County

Located just east of downtown Minneapolis, Elliot Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Many of the city's founding families built mansions in this fashionable neighborhood in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Brownstone row houses were built for emerging businessmen and their families and the working class found a stock of affordable housing along the tree lined streets. Times changed, people and small businesses moved away, parking lots replaced buildings and freeways dissected the neighborhood. An economic downturn continued for decades.

Elliot Park is now making a comeback. Once again, as in the late nineteenth century, it is emerging as a premier downtown residential neighborhood. Its diminished historic housing stock is being saved and new housing is being built. The growing residential population is both culturally and economically diverse. Small businesses, encouraged by the growth, are moving back into the neighborhood.
