This large, white house now overlooks the curve of Interstate 94 just east of "Spaghetti Junction" where I-94 and I-35E intersect. When it was built, about 1869, it was part of a large estate on what was then called Dayton Avenue after area developer Lyman Dayton. The street name was changed to Hoffman Avenue and later to Mounds Boulevard. The first owner was Gustav Muench (or Munch), who was related to Adolph Muench, owner of the house across the street to the north at 653 Fifth Street East. The Muenches were part of the early German community of Daytons Bluff.
