Allen was a partner in Allen, Moon and Co. wholesale grocers. The house is one of a handful of houses on Summit Ave. designed by prominent St. Paul architect J. Walter Stevens. It is interesting that Stevens who designed many wholesale warehouse and manufacturing buildings in Lowertown, would be commissioned to design this house for one of the largest wholesale grocers in the Midwest.
