Forepaugh moved here with his family in 1891 after leaving his wood frame house on Irvine Park (it still stands today and is used as a restaurant). Forepaugh was a member of the firm Forepaugh and Tarbox, manufacturers and wholesalers of boots and shoes. Forepaugh also owned a drygoods business. Members of the family owned the house for at least fifty years. However, by 1978 it had been subdivided into 19 apartments. Several years ago It was restored and the number of units significantly reduced and sold as condos.
