The Loring Apartments, 1676-1678 Hennepin Avenue, was one of many apartment buildings surrounding Loring Park that were razed in the expansion of streets and highways in the area near Loring Park and the Walker Art Center.

History

Jean Paul Getty, founder of the Getty Oil Company, lived at 1678 Hennepin from around 1895-1905. He lived there with parents, George Franklin and Sarah Getty. After Jean Paul’s graduation from Emerson Grammar School, the family permanently moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. (Getty, J. Paul)
