Rice Memorial Hospital was constructed in 1937, during the Great Depression, with a trust from Colonel Cushman Rice in memory of his parents, Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Albert Rice. It was designed by architect William M. Ingemann of Saint Paul and built by the Jensen Construction Company of Minneapolis.
