While far too many of its largest mansions north of Lake Street--those built for the city's business and professional elite during the late 1800s and early 1900s--are long gone (replaced by modern commercial structures) the majority of its more "modest" wood frame homes south of Lake Street still remain. These lovely residences, built largely for the families of upper-middle class professionals at the turn of the last century, evoke images of horse-drawn carriages and velvet-lined sleighs.
