One of the early, great mansions of the Uppertown neighborhood. Considered to be one of the finest homes in St. Paul, when it was built in 1855. The Banning family occupied the house to about 1900. The house was later used for many years, as the Jewish Home for the Aged. The house was razed c.1924, and a four-unit apartment building built on the site. That building was moved to Irvine Park in the mid-1960s, and the present brick apartment building built on the site. The original limestone wall which surrounded the Banning property, existed until being replaced in the 1990s. One of the great losses to the historic fabric of Uppertown. Jim Sazevich, 2011.
